In collaboration with AHSI • Engineered and Manufactured by BICASA Srl
BICASA Srl partnered with AHSI to deliver a suite of specialized research laboratories for FIS in Italy, requiring highly engineered, adaptable, and thermally responsive systems. The project centered on creating a flexible research environment capable of supporting heat‑generating analytical equipment, mobile workflows, and a uniquely efficient glassware management system.
Technical Spine Engineered for Heat Management
At the core of the laboratory infrastructure is a custom stainless‑steel technical spine, designed not only to distribute services but also to actively support airflow around high‑heat equipment such as HPLCs.
Key Features
- Stainless steel structure for durability and hygiene
- Integrated airflow channels to dissipate heat from analytical instruments
- Optimized service routing to reduce clutter and improve maintenance access
This spine became a critical component in ensuring stable performance and safe operation of heat‑intensive research equipment.
Evolite Fume Hoods for High‑Performance Containment
The laboratories incorporate Evolite fume hoods, engineered for reliability, ergonomics, and chemical resistance.
Construction Details
- Steel base for structural stability
- Aluminum side panels for lightweight strength
- HPL internal liner for chemical durability
- Aluminum sash frame for smooth, precise operation
These hoods provide consistent containment performance while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic aligned with the rest of the laboratory.
KOMPATTO Mobile Benches with Vented Storage
To support dynamic research workflows, the installation features KOMPATTO mobile benches, customized specifically for this project.
Bench Construction
- Steel base
- Aluminum uprights
- Aluminum/steel worktop support
- Trespa TopLab® Plus worktops
Special Engineering Enhancements
- Vented under‑bench cabinets to safely manage heat from equipment
- Mobility to reconfigure the space as research needs evolve
- Integration with the stainless‑steel tech spine for seamless service connection
These benches demonstrate BICASA’s ability to create client‑specific, adaptable, and fully mobile systems that support both safety and efficiency.
A Unique Two‑Sided Glassware Wall System
One of the most distinctive features of this project is the custom wall of glassware cabinets, designed to streamline the flow of clean and used glassware.
How the System Works
- Glass washers are positioned on one side of the wall
- Clean glassware is placed directly into two‑sided drawers
- Staff retrieve clean items from the opposite corridor without entering the wash area
Materials
- Tall cabinet bodies: Melamine
- Drawers: Melamine with glass fronts
- Doors: Glass
This system dramatically improves efficiency, hygiene, and workflow separation — and is visually striking, as captured in the project photography.
A Cohesive, High‑Performance Research Environment
Through close collaboration with AHSI and the FIS project team, BICASA delivered a research environment that is:
- Technically sophisticated
- Thermally optimized
- Highly adaptable
- Beautifully engineered
From the airflow‑enabled technical spine to the vented mobile benches and the innovative two‑sided glassware wall, this project showcases BICASA’s ability to design and manufacture specialist, client‑specific laboratory systems that elevate both performance and usability.
