Wexford Connect Labs at The Pearl is a multi‑tenant incubator space designed to support emerging life‑science companies in Charlotte’s growing innovation district. To meet the needs of a constantly changing tenant mix, the project required laboratory systems that were durable, flexible, and easily reconfigurable. BICASA North America was selected specifically for our ability to deliver highly adaptable, reconfigurable systems that could evolve with each new tenant.
A Complete, Flexible Laboratory Environment
Our scope included a comprehensive suite of laboratory furnishings engineered to support both current and future research programs:
- High‑performance RX Smart fume hoods
- K Flex benches and Smart Table systems
- Modulare fixed casework
- Tall storage cabinets, including lockable units
- Suspended cabinets integrated into select bench runs
- Custom wall shelving
- Ceiling service panels for clean, organized utility distribution
Every element was designed to support rapid turnover, varied research programs, and the need for continuous adaptability within an incubator environment.
Designed for Multi‑Tenant Adaptability
Because tenant needs shift frequently in incubator spaces, the system had to be:
- Modular
- Reconfigurable
- Durable under heavy use
- Easy to service and modify
The combination of the K Flex series of benches, suspended storage, and ceiling service panels allows the space to be reconfigured quickly without major construction — a key requirement for Wexford’s operational model and a major reason they selected BICASA North America for this project.
Aesthetic Choices That Elevate the Space
To enhance the visual quality of the labs and create a modern, cohesive environment, the client selected our signature Italian Grey finish instead of traditional white. This choice brought warmth, sophistication, and a sense of identity to the space — while maintaining the cleanability and durability required for high‑use research environments.
High‑Quality Materials for Long‑Term Performance
To ensure durability and cleanability across all tenant types, the project incorporated:
- Durcon epoxy worktops and sinks
- WaterSaver utility fixtures
- Powder‑coated steel casework and tall cabinets
- K Flex Smart Bench System from BICASA North America
- RX Smart Fume Hoods from BICASA North America
These materials provide the resilience needed for a high‑turnover, high‑demand research environment.
A Cohesive, Future‑Ready Lab Space
The final installation delivered a cohesive, modern laboratory environment that supports a wide range of research activities. The adaptability of the system ensures that Wexford Connect Labs can continue to evolve as new companies move in and out of the space — without sacrificing performance, safety, or workflow efficiency.
